Special Collections Book Collections

A majority of the book collections listed below arrived with archival collections. The books were removed from those collections and cataloged to increase the access of published items.

Leonard Bacon collection: This collection was donated by Martha Bacon Ballinger (Leonard Bacon’s daughter) and Ronald Ballinger and contains books that were published by Leonard Bacon or a part of his personal library. This collection is browsable in the Special Collections Reading Room.

Martha Bacon Ballinger children’s collection: Books that arrived with the Martha Bacon Ballinger and Ronald Ballinger papers that are specifically children’s books and include books written by Martha Bacon Ballinger.

Martha Bacon Ballinger and Ronald Ballinger collection: Books that arrived with the Martha Bacon Ballinger and Ronald Ballinger papers. The books in this collection were part of the Bacon Ballinger’s personal library.

Ronald Ballinger South African collection: Books that arrived with the Martha Bacon Ballinger and Ronald Ballinger papers that relate specifically to South Africa.

Antonio de Jesus Cardozo collection: Three newsletters from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy that contain articles in which Cardozo appeared.

Syd Cohen baseball collection: Books relating to baseball that were donated on behalf of Syd Cohen’s family. Cohen was a 1940 graduate of Rhode Island College and was heavily involved in the College after graduating. The books in this collection belonged to Cohen.

Maribelle Cormack collection: The Maribelle Cormack book collection includes books that arrived with the Cormack papers, some of which were written by Maribelle Cormack. A majority of the books pertain to the subjects of astronomy, anthropology, history, and genealogy.

Michael DeCiantis collection: Most of the publications in this collection relate to court cases and Sora, Italy.

James J. Donahue children’s literature collection: A collection of children’s books that also includes a collection of the Oz series, which was initially donated by Robin Medeiros.

Robert Dresser collection: Books donated by Robert Dresser which mostly relate to politics.

Annette Ducey children’s collection: Children’s books dated primarily between mid-1800s-1960s.

Annette Ducey Twain collection: Books written by and about Mark Twain.

Mark Estrin collection: Plays written by Edward Albee and signed by Albee, as well as one play written by Robert Anderson and inscribed by Anderson to Estrin.

Irving J. Fain collection: Books that arrived in the Irving J. Fain papers and were removed. A majority of these relate to fair housing and civil rights.

Helen Forman collection: Forman’s copies of Commercial High School Yearbooks

Joseph Graham collection: Books mostly relating to theatre, plays, dancing, and art.

Dorothy Hunt and James Williams Urban League collection: Books and pamphlets that arrived with the Hunt Williams Urban League records donated by James Williams.

Dorothy Hunt records of the Mayor’s Recreation Advisory Committee collection: Books and pamphlets that arrived with this collection primarily related to recreation sites and parks.

Ron McLarty collection: Primarily books written by McLarty, as well as signed copies of books he received from various authors. The book collection also includes audio tapes of books he narrated.

Barbara Mildram early childhood materials collection: Books collected and donated by Mildram regarding early childhood education. A majority were published between 1930 and 1975.

Joseph R. Muratore collection: Books that were donated by Joseph Muratore. A majority of these books relate to the history of Italy, Christopher Columbus, and Italian Americans.

Joseph George Ray collection: Books that were donated with the Joseph George Ray papers, and include books about leavers lace, Pawtuxet Valley, and the life and writings of Ray.

Elizabeth H. Rowell historical collection of transgender books for children: The collection was created by Professor Elizabeth H. Rowell to assure that LGTBTQ-friendly children’s books would always be a part of the James P. Adams Library collection. The main library collection also includes a set of these books.

Ridgeway F. Shinn, Jr. and A.B. Keith collection: Books that were donated by Shinn with his papers. Many of the items in the collection are authored or co-authored by Arthur Berriedale Keith.

Richard Vangermeersch collection: Primarily publications relating to Irving Fisher and the Hazard family.

Maurice and Vera Vendettuoli collection: Published materials that arrived in the Maurice and Vera Vendettuoli papers. Most of these items were used by the Vendettuolis as research against changes in education and desegregation. Some have been annotated by Maurice Vendettuoli.

John J. Wilkinson collection: Published materials, mostly education reports, removed from the John J. Wilkinson archival collection.
